Difference between an CPU, MPU, MCU, DSP
To be simple, the difference among CPU, MPU, MCU, DSP can be summaried as below.
CPU (Central Processing Unit): executes instructions, can contain single or several chips.
MPU (Micro-Processor Unit): a single-chip CPU, which we have in our PC’s.
MCU: (Micro Control Unit) = MPU + surrending aids/equipments.
DSP (Digital Signal Processor): similar to MCU, but dedicated and good at calculating one specific type of data. DSP is widely used for telecommunication signal processing and image signal processing.
